Maulana Syed Jalaluddin Umari demands release of leaders of Bangladesh Jamaat Islami

March 3, 2013

Maulana-Syed-Jalaluddin-Umari-demands-release-of-leaders-of-Bangladesh-Jamaat-IslamiNew Delhi: Maulana Syed Jalaluddin Umari, Ameer (National President) of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, has lamented the death sentence for popular leader of Bangladesh Jamaat Islami Maulana Abul Kalam Azad and renowned religious leader and speaker Maulana Dilawar Husain Sayeedi by the ruling Awami League-appointed war tribunal. While terming the conviction as cruelty and injustice, Maulana Umari demanded Bangladesh government to revoke the sentence against Sayeedi and all leaders of Jamaat Islami, rescind the cases and release them. He said this punishment is the worst example of devaluing the nation’s most caring and concerned Jamaat and its people.

Maulana Umari said that even if Bangladesh Jamaat Islami had different views from Shiekh Mujiburrahman during the 1971 conflict in East Pakistan, that cannot be called a crime. The history of world nations is replete with examples when groups and individuals had different views on an issue though all were honest and patriotic to the nation. It cannot be justified if mere on the basis of different views, groups and people are implicated in false cases, denied justice and prosecuted. Rather, the present government of Bangladesh should look at the role and services of Jamaat Islami, its leaders and people in the history of the country, and they should be treated with accordingly.

Those who have observed international affairs and politics know well that Bangladesh Jamaat Islami did great service to the nation in the field of religion, politics, economy and social welfare. They have done this all while being part of the government. So, due to political differences, implicating leaders of Jamaat in false cases and awarding even death sentences are against the Islamic and democratic values. This will not improve the image of Bangladesh, its leader Ms Sheikh Haseena Wajid and her party; rather their position will be hurt and seen with suspicion. Ms Sheikh Haseena must not forget that her father Sheikh Mujiburrahman had not included any Jamaat leader among his opponents, and he had announced to forgive even the opponents. To relive the issue and target new people for revenge is utterly oppression and none can like it.

Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind urged Bangladesh government and its leader to overcome emotion and revengeful attitude and taking a just approach they should release the leaders of Jamaat Islami. They should give attention to protecting their image and establishing justice in the country. Maulana Umari said that for development, Bangladesh needs an atmosphere of peace and brotherhood, not chaos and anarchy.

Ameer Jamaat has appealed to all peace-loving people to raise their voice against this injustice.

In present circumstances the decision of the Bangla Deshi govt., to give the death sentence to renown Islamic scholars and the leaders of Jamaat e Islami Bangla Desh is great injustice and a slap on the face of Democracy, Freedom and Justice. Therefore I strongly condemn the death sentence and demand immediate and unconditional release of these leaders and give a proof of peace and justice in the country.
